LJD's creative approach allows children to experience a joyous exploration of movement! Our young dancers feel confident and happy as they dance - our studio is always warm and supportive. Each class includes the basic positions and steps of early ballet technique while encouraging an awareness of the use of shapes and levels as expressive tools. This imaginative class includes games and songs and culminates in an open class for parents to observe. Please note the ages for each session. For class dates select a button under the photos above.
Ballet I: 1st and 2nd grades/Mondays 4:45pm - 5:45pm
LJD offers a warm and uplifting developmentally-based ballet class! At this age, children are now able to make their own dances in small groups using choreographic tools such as: story lines, levels and spatial design. This class culminates in an open class in the Fall and an evening performance of our student's choreography on stage in the Spring. For class dates select a button under the photos above.

Ballet 2: 3rd through 5th grades/ Mondays 5:45 pm -6:45pm
This class builds on the ballet curriculum of Ballet 1 while allowing beginners to participate. Through an individuated curriculum our student dancers will be both supported and challenged as they improve their technique. The class expands the range of classical ballet steps worked on as well as to emphasize the crucial importance of correct alignment. At this age students can begin to choreograph dances with more sophisticated components including canons, spatial design, exits and entrances and counterpoint. This class culminates in an open class in the Fall and an evening performance of our student's choreography on stage in the Spring. For class dates select a button under the photos above.
Ballet 3: 6th through 10th grades/ Mondays 6:45pm -8:00pm
Our 6th -10th graders are now working with more advanced versions of the exercises both in the technique and choreography sections of the class. The class welcomes beginners as well and works with them through individuated curriculum. Additional ballet movements and patterns, including adagio and allegro sections, are introduced. At this age students are able to compose using more advanced choreographic tools such as: counterpoint, theme and variation, canons, spatial and stage design as well as to begin to add a deeper understanding of how the dances link to music. Ballet 3 dancers will now increase their ability to use class steps within their creative work.
