Our School and Camp are NJ 501C-3 not-for-profits which give $18,000 in scholarships annually to families who otherwise would be unable to afford dance classes for their children.  We offer an alternative to commercial dance education and, as such, do not charge for any expensive recital costumes nor are there expensive tickets for our annual Spring performance of student choreography. Many commercial  studios run short class series- which can appear less costly -  or ask for a full year commitment. We believe in a semester schedule as it allows for flexibility for families and for dancers who are exploring multiple arts and sports, and yet gives our young dancers time to develop both their technical and their creative skills.

Our Fall semester includes 15 classes and culminates in an Open Class (no admission fee). Our Winter/Spring semester runs longer at 16 classes and includes an additional afternoon rehearsal and full evening performance for 1st grade and up. The performances are held at The Woodland and we ask for a voluntary donation at the door. Many parents report that, given all the extras the commercial schools charge for, our classes are actually less expensive in the end.

In addition, your tuition helps our not-for-profit school's Scholarship and Teen Internship Programs as well supporting a fine arts approach to dance education. All not-for-profits depend on donations and at this time there are very few grants available now to help arts organizations survive.

We are deeply grateful for the families who give a tax deductible donation to Lydia Johnson Dance to support our work.
